We still remember, it’s a day full of love and memories. What is the purest feeling when you make a portrait? You can hold on to a moment, a smile, a piece of someone’s story just by one photo. This year, through our Help Portrait project with Gusde Photography, we got the chance to turn that belief into something real for a group of very special people.
We visited Taman Werdha Syailendra, a nursing home in Uluwatu, Bali. Our goal was simple: to give each of the elders there their own portrait. It might sound small, but to them and to us it meant the world.
At Taman Werdha Syailendra, the atmosphere is full of kindness and togetherness. The staff treat every resident like family, ensuring they feel cared for and respected. Walking through the home, we could feel the sense of community everyone supporting each other, sharing smiles, and finding joy in simple things.
That day was not just about taking pictures. We started with makeup and grooming, helping each elder feel beautiful and confident. Then came the photoshoot filled with laughter, shy smiles, and even a few happy tears.
We also sang karaoke together, shared meals, and spent time just chatting. We listen to their stories, their jokes, and even their dreams. It was filled with warmth, music, and the kind of joy that makes you forget time.
For us, it wasn’t just a regular annual activity. It was a day that reminded us why we do what we do. We left with memory cards full of portraits but more importantly, with hearts full of love and gratitude.
Because sometimes, the greatest gift you can give someone is to show them how beautiful they truly are, and to make sure their smile is never forgotten.
